Red Bull are one of the most iconic and successful teams on the Formula One grid – now the crowd at the Jackie Stewart Classic – presented by Rolex will get to see one of their cars up close and personal.
Red Bull have been at the sharp end of the F1 world for many years – they helped Max Verstappen to the world title last year and the young Dutch superstar was a winner last time out in Spain.
Most fans have to settle for seeing the car from the stands or on TV. Gamers could “drive” it – with the new F1 2022 game out next month.
But there is a real-life thrill at the Jackie Stewart Classic – presented by Rolex event at Thirlestane Castle on June 18 and 19.
Visitors will be treated to the sight and sounds of a modern Formula One car running up the Thirlestane Sprint course! Red Bull have agreed to show off the Adrian Newey-designed RB8 car that Aussie star Mark Webber drove to victory on the streets of Monaco in 2012 for the two-day festival.
Webber had qualified the Red Bull on car pole and led from start to finish once the lights went out.
At the time he said: “The start was key, the pitstop was key, both of them went well. I did a little bit of work in between and we got an incredible victory that I’m very, very happy with.”
Now the RB8 will at Thirlestane Castle near Lauder in the Borders and a bumper crowd will be able to check it out when it is put through its paces, twice each day, by Patrick Friesacher
It will be on show alongside the three stunning title-winning cars driven by Sir Jackie Stewart – the 1969 Matra that powered him to his first championship and the Tyrrell 003 and Tyrrell 006.
The family-friendly festival – in aid of Race Against Dementia – will also feature live motorsport action, extensive retail, food and drink displays and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Borders Vintage Automobile Club and their award-winning classic car show.
